Looking northeast towards the corner of King St W and Peter St in Toronto’s Fashion District.
The archive photo shows the EZee Parking lot at the corner, where rates appear to have been 35¢ per hour, 85¢ for the maximum time, and 50¢ on Saturdays. The building on the left was occupied by Blackhall & Co., a bookbinding business. The white rowhouses in the centre background are on Widmer St. The house on the right, at 10 Widmer St, was home to Alpine Motors, which specialized in repairing Volkswagens and Porsches, as shown on the sign. In the distance, the tops of two notable buildings are visible: the Canada Life Building and Toronto City Hall.
Since the early 1990s, this stretch of King St W has been home to a building that houses the Hyatt Regency Toronto, along with commercial and office spaces. The 2.5-storey heritage-designated homes at 10-20 Widmer St have been preserved and restored, and they are now part of the residential tower known as the Theatre District Residence.
