Looking towards the northwest across Carlton St towards Jarvis St in the Church-Wellesley neighbourhood of Toronto.
The archive photo shows the streetscape nearly 50 years ago. At the northeast corner was a Shell gas station, while the northwest corner was a used car lot. Along the west side of Jarvis St is a row of homes constructed between 1863 and 1875. These homes still stand today and are listed on the city’s heritage register. The round apartment building in the background of the vintage photo is the Village Green Apartments at 50 Alexander St.
Since the mid-1980s, the gas station site has been home to the Carlton on the Park office and residential condominiums. In the mid-1990s, the Jarvis Carlton Apartments, a red brick building, replaced the car lot.
