Looking towards 359 Yonge St, south of Gerrard St E, in Toronto’s Downtown Yonge area.
The building was constructed in 1895 and served as an undertaker’s business and residence until the early 1910s. Over time, the building was repurposed to house various businesses, including the Rosticceria Tavern, as shown in an archive photo.
After the building underwent a renovation in 1951, the restaurant reopened as the Zanzibar Tavern and featured live music entertainment. The venue gradually transitioned to adult entertainment, and in 2001, the exterior of the building had a Vegas-inspired update. Now known as Club Zanzibar, it’s one of the city’s last surviving strip clubs.
