Looking southeast down Yonge St from north of Richmond St in downtown Toronto.
In both photos, you can see a portion of the Simpson’s Building in the right foreground. The archive photo features a red sign on the right that belongs to the S. S. Kresge store. According to the 1972-73 Toronto City Directory, a few establishments in the archive photo on the left include the Royal Bank of Canada, Owens & Elmes Shoes, and the Steak N Chicken Palace Restaurant.
