Looking north up Yonge St from south of Alexander St/Grosvenor St in the Downtown Yonge area of Toronto.
A few of the establishments visible in the archive photo include the Grosvenor Hotel in the right foreground as well as Colling Tire Shop and Lindy’s Auto Supplies in the building across Alexander St. On the left side of the vintage photo is a sign for the Commodore Café.
One building that is partially visible in both photos is in the background on the left, across Grosvenor St. In the present-day photo, it’s the beige and grey, three-storey building that’s to the left of the Downtown Yonge pole. It was built in 1887 as a Bank of Montreal branch, which it was still serving as in the archive photo. More recently, its storefront has been used as restaurant space.
