Looking northwest along Yonge St, just south of Bloor St W, in Toronto’s Church-Wellesley and Bay-Cloverhill neighbourhoods.
A few of the shops in the archive photo include Manny’s Delicatessen, McDonald’s, John McMahon Ltd Silks & Textiles, Jolie Femme Company, Your Ultimate Fashion and The Fashion Creator.
The image also showcases the Uptown Theatre, which opened in 1920. It was transformed from a single-screen to a 5-screen venue in 1969. The theatre ceased operations in 2003, and today, only its arched entrance remains, now housing a Rogers store.
