St Michael’s Cathedral Basilica

St Michael’s Cathedral Basilica is located at 65 Bond St (at Shuter St on the northeast corner) in the Garden District neighbourhood of Toronto.

Built in 1845/48, architect William Thomas designed the church in the English Gothic Revival style. The land was purchased for £1,800. In 1858, the great chancel windows designed by Etienne Thévenot were installed. In 1867, the Cathedral’s tower and spire were added. A pipe organ by Warren Church Organ Co. which cost $12,000, was blessed in 1880.

The Cathedral received heritage status from the City of Toronto in 1973 and Ontario Heritage Trust in 2012.
