Looking northeast along Church St from south of Queen St E in the Garden District of Toronto.
The archive photo shows 60 Queen St E, with its distinctive turret when Thrifty’s Sport Shop occupied the storefront. Over the years, the building has housed various businesses, including Public Optical, Gino’s Pizza, and Shawarma’s King. In the vintage photo, also notice the Sears truck and the pawnshops along Church St.
Plans are underway to preserve the building’s historic façade and its neighbouring structures as part of a new development named Queen Church Condos.
