The Paul Bishop House is located at 363-365 Adelaide St E and Sherbourne St, on the southeast corner, in the Old Town neighbourhood of Toronto. The two attached Georgian-style homes were built in 1842 for Paul Bishop, a blacksmith and landlord with a shop that once stood across the street. The house received heritage status from the city in 1989.

I worked at Poole & Co. Machine Shop owned by Mr. and Mrs. George and Reena Bowles, 1959 to 1964.
George taught me use of milling machines, radial arm drill press, lathe and fabricated welding, in these years before I went on to serve my tool & die apprenticeship at IBM in Don Mills. George and Reena were wonderful people, treated me like a son, I have been forever grateful to them all my life long.
Hi Jerry, Thank you for sharing. It sounds like you had a great learning experience with Mr. and Mrs. Bowles. It’s always nice to hear from someone who has a connection with the building. I noticed that the address at that time was 75 Duke St, and Poole & Co. Machinists was located on the east side of the building.
That`s right, Duke & Sherbourne St`s, I would ride the TTC bus down to the Bingham loop at Victoria Park and Kingston Rd, then walk towards Spruce Hill Rd where George lived, he would meet me along the way and we would be at the shop around 7:30. The main floor of the shop was very old heavy wood planks that we had to brace with posts and beams in basement (stone foundation). Upstairs was a room that was Mrs. Bowles office and a another set of stairs up to the attic. And a steel fire escape stairway out to the back yard. The front door from the street was on the west side – you can see in the photos how it has been bricked in. The west half of the building was “Morley and Son Hammer Mills” later bought out by Mr. & Mrs. Bowles thus becoming “Canadian Pulverizer”.

Hi Denise Marie. My great grandfather was H.E. Redman, a prominent Toronto lawyer at the Dominion Bank Building 711 Yonge St. I spent my early years growing up in his mansion at 2 Birchmount Rd. where he camped before building his home on the bluffs. I have a box of about 50 letters that he wrote starting in 1886 when he first came to Toronto, letters to his mother and to Mary Wise his future wife and my future great grandmother. Their children became my dearest grandmother Dora E. Chadwick, aunties Winifred And Lillian, uncles Bill, Ed, and Len. All of them lived on 2 Birchmount Rd property at one time except Len at the Thornhill farm. So many memories!!!
