The Meyers Studio terrazzo storefront entryway is located at 83 Yonge St (north of King St E) in the St Lawrence neighbourhood of Toronto.
The northwest entrance of the Tin & Copper Smith Building features a yellow and black terrazzo apron with the initials “MS.” These letters pay tribute to the Meyers Studio, which operated from this location from 1941 until the mid-1950s. When the photo studio opened, it already had 23 years of industry experience and an impressive portfolio with over 35 studios across Canada. An advertisement in a local newspaper promoted special offers, such as a hand-painted enlargement in an easel frame from your own negative for just 89¢.
Constructed in 1857, the historic Tin & Copper Smith Building is attributed to architect Joseph Sheard. The ground floor facade of this architectural gem also showcases exquisite mosaic tiles. The building was granted heritage status by the city in 1973.
