The Lady Ellis Shops Limited terrazzo storefront entryway is located at 187 Roncesvalles Ave (between Fern Ave and Wright Ave) in the Parkdale and Roncesvalles neighbourhoods of Toronto.
At the entrance of what is now home to Scooter Girl Toys, customers are greeted by one of the building’s defining features: a terrazzo apron adorned with green, gold, and black hues, prominently displaying the name “Lady Ellis Shops Limited.” This particular Lady Ellis shop, which specialized in hosiery, was part of a larger chain of stores that operated across Toronto from 1946 to 1963. Other locations in the chain diversified their offerings to include ladies’ and children’s clothing. However, the company faced financial difficulties and ultimately declared bankruptcy in 1963.
