Looking northeast towards the corner of King St E and Princess St, in the Old Town, in of Toronto’s St Lawrence neighbourhood.
At the corner, two of the oldest buildings on the block showcase their three-storey red brick facades. The building at 254 King St E, built in two phases, started as Stagg Inn and Noble’s Tavern in 1847 by William Noble, with an addition in 1891. Next door, at 256 King St E, the building was constructed in 1890 for Charles Steinle, a provisions merchant with a pork packing company. Over the years, these buildings have hosted a variety of businesses.
Significant parts of these historic structures will be preserved and incorporated into the Grainger, a 38 and 40-story mixed-use development that will occupy an entire city block.
