Avonmore Hotel (former site) in 1940 & 2026

The archive photo shows Nicholls Drug Store and the Avonmore Hotel after a fatal fire gutted the building. The hotel, which opened in 1891, was found negligent for allowing a wooden receptacle in the dining room where patrons discarded ashtrays. The hotel was repaired and later housed men in need.

In the late 1970s, the corner was converted into a parking lot; today, it is the site of a residential building.
