The Ideal Aluminum Products Limited ghost sign is located at 2466 Dundas St W (at Glenlake Ave, north of Bloor St W) in the West Bend neighbourhood of Toronto.
On the north-facing wall of the old building, there’s a ghost sign that reads, “Ideal Aluminum Products Limited – Toronto, Canada.” This company produced aluminum cooking utensils in the factory from the early 1920s until approximately 1932.
The five-storey brick factory and warehouse was constructed in 1920 for the Louis McLain Manufacturing Company. The building cost $70,000 and was designed by architect George W. Hunt. Within a few years, the Toronto City Directory listed the Ideal Aluminum Products Company at this address. By 1933, the company had vacated the building; however, the advertising on the north wall remains. The building later housed other industrial businesses, including a shoe company and a knitting mill.
The old factory has since been repurposed into a mixed-use space for both living and working, now known as the Dundas West Arts Building.
