Looking southeast on Gerrard St E, west of Greenwood Ave, in the Leslieville neighbourhood of Toronto.
The archive photo shows the Guild Theatre, originally Greenwood Theatre, once located at 1275 Gerrard St E. On the marquee, “The Petrified Forest,” starring Bette Davis and Leslie Howard, and “Don’t Gamble with Love,” starring Ann Sothern, were playing, both released in 1936. The theatre closed in 1956, and today, the building houses retail space.
On the left side of the old image, several Coca-Cola signs are visible. The first is a hanging sign at Walsh’s Lunch Room, where burgers cost 5¢. The other two signs, one hanging and the other located above the restaurant, are from Clayton’s Candies & Lunches.
