Looking northeast towards the corner of Yonge St and The Esplanade, in the St Lawrence neighbourhood of Toronto.
The archive photo shows the charred ruins of the Toronto Wholesale Fruit Market. Constructed in 1866, the building originally served as the Great Western Railway Station. It was later a railway freight depot before becoming the fruit market in 1927. In 1952, a devastating fire swept through the old station. Today, the site is home to the 58-storey condominium known as the L Tower.
