Looking northwest towards Yonge St from The Esplanade, in the St Lawrence neighbourhood of Toronto.
The archive photo features trucks along with horse-drawn wagons at the Toronto Wholesale Fruit Market. This building was originally constructed for the Great Western Railway Station, which opened in 1866. It later served as a railway freight depot before housing the wholesale fruit market in 1927. The building was destroyed by fire in 1952. Today, this corner is the site of the L Tower condominium.
The vintage photo also shows the corner of the Dominion Public Building on the left, the Bank of Montreal Building, which is now home to the Hockey Hall of Fame, and in the background, the tall structure is the Canadian Bank of Commerce Building.
