Looking southeast from the corner of Victoria St and Gould St, at the Toronto Metropolitan University campus in downtown Toronto.
The archive photo shows the corner as a parking lot before it became Devonian Square in 1978. The square features a large oval reflecting pool, which transforms into an ice skating rink during the winter months. Scattered around the pool are huge Precambrian boulders imported from the Muskoka region.
Devonian Square, which is also known as Lake Devo, was designed by landscape architects Richard Strong and Steven Moorhead. The principal funding for the project was donated by The Devonian Foundation of Calgary.
