Looking northwest towards the intersection of Spadina Ave and College St in the Discovery District and Harbord Village neighbourhood of Toronto.
The archive photo captures the streetscape showing horse-drawn wagons and streetcars. On the left, there’s a branch of the Canadian Bank of Commerce, and although it’s not very visible, the former Broadway Tabernacle is on the right.
The bank building, designed by architects Darling & Pearson, was constructed around 1905. It was later replaced by the current structure in the 1960s, and over a century later, the corner is still home to a branch of the CIBC. The Broadway Tabernacle was located at the northeast corner from 1889 until 1930, when it was replaced by the existing four-storey store and office building, designed by architect Benjamin Brown.
To this day, streetcars continue to travel along Spadina Ave and College St.
