Looking north up Spadina Ave, just south of College St in the University District and Harbord Village neighbourhoods of Toronto.
The building with the distinctive tower in the centre background was originally known as Knox College, an architectural gem built in 1885. This historic property is now part of the University of Toronto and, today, called the Daniels Building.
In the foreground on the right, the building with the Neilson’s Jersey Milk Chocolate Bar sign on top was home to Tip Top Tailors, as shown in the archive photo. It also shows the Hotel Waverley, a four-storey low-rise structure on the left. The hotel closed in 2017, and the following year, it was demolished to make way for The Waverley condo tower, as shown in the present-day photo.
