Looking southwest along Spadina Ave from College St in the Kensington Market neighbourhood of Toronto.
The archive photo captures the streetscape with workers replacing TTC streetcar tracks at the intersection. The project took about three weeks to complete and cost $40,000. During the work, vehicle traffic was diverted, but streetcars still operated through the intersection, with one visible on the right and the other in the distance on the left.
While many buildings shown in the old photo still exist today, one notable exception is the building directly at the corner, in the right foreground, which housed the Royal Bank of Canada. This building has long since been replaced and is currently occupied by Rexall Drugstore.
