Coady Sweets Ghost Sign (former)

Posted:

The Coady Sweets ghost sign was once located at 1146 Queen St E (at Coady Ave, on the northwest corner) in the Leslieville neighbourhood of Toronto.

On the east-facing wall of the building, there was a ghost sign that read, “Coca-Cola Coady Sweets.” The confectionery store first appeared in the 1926 Toronto City Directory and was operated by Peter Gamoff until the late 1950s. For several years after, it continued to operate as a confectionery store under various names before transitioning to a dry cleaning business and, later, Edjan Convenience. If you look closely in the lower left corner of the ghost sign, you can also see an old blue street sign that has been painted over.

Since 2018, the building has been home to La Paella Restaurant. In 2025, the wall that once showcased the ghost sign was repainted, and today, the building features an eye-catching sign with the restaurant’s name in vibrant yellow letters.
