Looking southeast towards the Christie Mansion, located at 100 Wellesley St W and Queens Park Cres E in the Bay-Cloverhill area of Toronto.
In 1880, William M. Christie, co-founder of Christie, Brown & Company, purchased the property from the University of Toronto. He hired the architectural firm Gordon & Helliwell to design his late-Victorian-style home, which was completed in 1881. When Mr. Christie passed away at home in 1900, his only son, Robert, inherited both the business and the mansion. In 1910, Robert reconstructed the home with designs by Darling & Pearson. After Robert died at the house in 1926, the property was sold to the Sisters of St Joseph for a reported $140,000, which was the year the archive photo was taken.
In 2008, the University of Toronto bought the mansion from the Sisters of St Joseph. The university leased it to Regis College for the Jesuit School of Theology, which it remains today.
