Looking northwest towards the corner of Bay St and Adelaide St W, in the Financial District of Toronto.
The archive photo shows a two-story frame house, which was built in 1827 by W.H. Doel. Among the shops visible in the vintage photo are Emine Hussen, a shoe polisher, and Ralph Sannuto, a barber.
Around 1924, the old house was demolished, and the following year, the Northern Ontario Building, designed by architects Chapman & Oxley, was constructed at the corner. The Northern Ontario Building at 330 Bay St, was listed on the city’s heritage register in 1976.
