Looking northwest up Yonge St from south of Front St, straddling the borders of the Financial District and St Lawrence neighbourhood of Toronto.
The Bank of Montreal Building, located in the centre left of both images, was designed by the architectural firm Darling & Curry to replace an earlier branch that had been at the site since 1845. In 1982, after more than 130 years of service, the branch closed because the present-day building required extensive repairs. Since 1993, it has been the home of the Hockey Hall of Fame.
In the vintage photo, the taller structure in the background is the Canadian Bank of Commerce Building. While the top floors of this 34-storey building are visible in the current photo, it appears significantly smaller due to the larger towers that surround it today.
