The rectangular and line-patterned terrazzo storefront entryway is located at 576-580 Danforth Ave (between Carlaw Ave and Pape Ave) in the Playter Estates-Danforth neighbourhood of Toronto.
As customers approach the storefront that has been home to IL FORNELLO restaurant since the mid-1990s, they are greeted by a piece of history underfoot—a vintage terrazzo floor. With an Art Deco aesthetic, the floor features the street numbers “576-580,” along with gold, pink, and black rectangular patterns, as well as an arrow (or V shape) and lines directing patrons in and out of the building. Over the years, this storefront has housed various businesses, including Thomson Groceries, Dover Sports Shop, Dover Men’s Shop, Imperial Flowers of Canada and Nick’s Sport Shop.
