The arrows and diamond-patterned terrazzo entryway is located at 2 Toronto St (at King St E, at the northwest corner) in the St Lawrence neighbourhood of Toronto.
The east side of the building features a single step embellished with a boldly-coloured terrazzo inlay. This geometric Art Deco design showcases two red inverted arrows that overlap to form a central diamond in gold. The inlay is set against a yellow background that is framed by a black border.
While it’s not known when the terrazzo step dates back to, the building itself was constructed in 1886. Originally home to the Quebec Bank along with various business offices, the five-storey building was designed by architect David B Dick. The bank last appears at this location in the 1912 Toronto City Directory.
Over the years, the building has housed a variety tenants, including Letros Tavern and Bacchus Steakhouse Tavern. It was added to the city’s heritage register in 1973 and continues to function as a commercial building today.
